Personal Preferences
If your cabinets have a heavy grain (such as older oak cabinets), our standard process will fill 90% of the grain, so that your cabinets look fresh and beautiful when painted. The large flat areas on your cabinets will be smooth with almost no perceptible grain. However, there might still be the “imprint” of the existing grain just barely visible under your new cabinet finish, on areas such as rounded curves or edges. This is not usually an issue, but once in a while, a homeowner will want every last appearance of grain completely eliminated. We can do this, but it will add about 15 – 20% to the cost of your project. Do you want us to quote for a standard finish that eliminates 90% or more of the existing grain, or for a “full grain elimination” finish at a higher cost?*
Regarding the insides of cabinets: If your cabinet insides have a natural or “clear” finish, the industry standard is to leave those alone and not paint them. (Exception: If you have any glass-fronted doors that make the insides of those cabinets visible, we will paint the insides of those particular cabinets only, to match the rest of your kitchen.) However, if the insides of your cabinets are very dark stained wood or were previously painted, some homeowners may want the insides painted. Painting the Insides of all your cabinets typically adds about 10-15% to the cost of your project. Considering your own kitchen cabinets, do you want the insides painted?*
Our standard finishes are done in a satin sheen, which is both beautiful and easy to clean. Do you want a different sheen, such as high-gloss? Please bear in mind that a higher gloss sheen may incur an additional cost to your quote, but we can quote your project for both satin (standard) and high-gloss options.*
Will you want any specialty finishes such as a hand-done antiquing glaze applied to your cabinets, or just solid color painting/refinishing? A hand-applied glazed finish typically adds 20% to the cost of your project.*

Caulking
Many cabinets are made with inset panels that are designed to be able to “float” within the cabinet door, to expand or contract with temperature changes, for example. These panels are not meant to be caulked in. However, some homeowners don’t want to see the tiny gap between inset panel and frame, and prefer to caulk those areas. We can caulk them if desired, but if there is any future cracking of those caulked areas, those cracks will NOT be covered by our warranty. If you have floating panels, do you want us to caulk them in (understanding that future cracking of those areas is not covered by warranty), or leave them uncaulked as originally intended?*
Because drawers get a lot of movement and carry weight from the contents placed inside, we typically do not caulk the insides of drawers or drawer boxes. Similarly, we do not caulk inside the cabinets themselves, since weight from loaded dishes or other items can cause minuscule shifting of the various panels and built-in shelves, leading to cracking of any caulked areas inside your cabinets. However, if you want us to caulk those areas anyway, we can do so, as long as you accept that any future cracks of these caulked areas are NOT covered by our warranty. Do you want us to caulk the insides of your cabinets and drawer boxes, or leave them uncaulked as suggested?*
Hardware
Will we be reinstalling your original hinges and door hardware (handles, knobs, or pulls) after painting?*
If you are getting new hardware, does it have the same “profile” as your existing hardware? In other words, will you be using the existing screw holes to install your new hardware?*
If you are getting new hardware with a different profile (such as a 4” handle instead of a 3” handle), will you need us to fill any of your existing hardware holes that will not be used by the new hardware? We can cover existing hardware holes, at an additional charge of $5 per hole.*
