  6. Relax while our expert cabinet painters work their magic.  Our own professional cabinet painters arrive on your scheduled start date and get to work!  You relax while they tent off your kitchen, disassemble your cabinet doors and drawers, clean, sand, and prime everything, fill any dings, sand and prime it again, spray on the gorgeous color, and reassemble your now-beautiful cabinetry.  It takes more than one day, of course, but you love seeing it all unfold . . . like one of those time-lapse plant-growing videos.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best paint and finish for kitchen cabinets to ensure durability and easy cleaning?

We use fast-drying lacquer for a smooth, durable, and easy-to-clean finish! Lacquer for cabinets can be tinted to any color and sheen you like, including matte, satin, and high-gloss finishes. And nothing beats its silky smoothness. We bring sample cabinet doors that we’ve painted to your estimate consultation, so you can see and feel their beauty for yourself.

We always remove the doors and drawers before painting cabinets! Leaving them in place would be a rookie mistake. There’s no way to get a clean, professional result if you’re trying to tape around the hinges and hardware to spray around them. And brushing or rolling the paint in place won’t yield that gorgeous smooth finish you expect from a professional cabinet painting company.

Most kitchen cabinet painting projects can be done in one week! Of course, if you have a particularly large kitchen or additional spaces like a butler’s pantry, it might take a few days more. But we’ve perfected our system to minimize the time needed to give your cabinets a beautiful factory finish, you can can back to a kitchen you’ll love as soon as possible.

Better your cabinets yourself is almost never a good idea, and takes far longer for the untrained individual than you’d expect. A typical kitchen contains more than 50 “pieces” – cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and shelves – that all must be taken down, hardware labeled and removed, and then processed. This includes thorough cleaning and sanding, two coats or primer on BOTH sides, filling any dings or cracks, and spraying two coats of color. All of this is done with spray equipment that takes practice to master. Not to mention properly masking off your kitchen itself to avoid any paint or overspray getting on your floors, counters, or appliances. Then once everything is sprayed and finished, it must be reassembled and all hardware put back in place. This is a serious undertaking that is not for the faint of heart, contrary to many click-bait reels and videos out there.
We explain more about why taking on cabinet painting as a DIY project is not the wisest choice in this post here!

Good, thorough prep is essential to make sure your beautiful new finish lasts for many years!  This includes cleaning to remove any grease or oil residue, sanding and especially priming to ensure your fresh cabinet finish sticks to your cabinets properly.  We use the right kind of primer for your cabinet type, including a heavy-bodied primer to fill the wood grain if you have oak or alder cabinets, to make sure your new finish is silky smooth with no visible grain afterwards.  And of course we fill any cracks or dings in your cabinets during the priming stage, so that your freshly-painted cabinets look like new when done!

After nearly a decade of seeing many kitchen cabinets painted white, we’re now seeing a resurgence of color, either in rich, deep colors like greens, or soft, warm neutrals like creams, mushroom, or taupe colors. And of course a sophisticated black cabinet will never go out of style! We’ve listed our favorite black and green colors, and of course we always include a professional color consultation with every project, to find you just the right color that will work in your own home, with your existing countertops and backsplash. Whether you want a vibrant green, navy blue, perfect white, or soft cashmere color, we’ll help you find it!

This is a great question that often comes down to your existing kitchen layout and your home improvement budget.  If your layout if awkward or no longer meets your needs, you might consider a full kitchen remodel, complete with new cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and even appliances.  This is the priciest option, and will cost tens of thousands of dollars and cause some significant disruption in your home while work goes on.  But if your existing layout works, there’s no need to rip out your entire kitchen.  Replacing your cabinets would mean demolishing or removing the existing cabinets and counters.  If your cabinets are sound and laid out well, painting them a fresh color is an excellent option, and will cost less than a third, on average, than getting new cabinets.  Even grainy oak cabinets can be made to look like new with our cabinet painting system.  And if your cabinet doors and drawers are in a style you no longer like, they can be replaced (often called “refacing” your cabinets) and the new doors and drawer fronts painted, together with your base cabinets, to completely transform your cabinet, for a fraction of the cost.

Make sure that your cabinet painter uses a quality cabinet paint such as lacquer, that they remove the doors and drawer fronts before painting, that they prime properly, and especially that they’ll spray your finish!! Anything less will result in a substandard finish that will look DIY or amateurish at best, and will flake off at worst. And of course you’ll want to make sure they are fully insured, including workman’s compensation, and have a solid reputation to stand by their work, for your own piece of mind. We explain more about how to find a great cabinet painter here.
